The Monthly Retail Sales Data in the US to be Released on Friday

The report should give supporting data to the findings of Wednesday's CPI report, but from the perspective of the retail sellers. After the reportedly disappointing performance in April, when the index fell to -0.2% from the 1.7% in March, investors are hoping for substantial numbers to be released this time and compensate for the past poor results.

There have been sizable fluctuations in the overall performance since July 2018, and the expectations are that now with the summertime holiday season, the general sales performance might be boosted from the expected higher expenditure on tourism and leisure, which generally benefits the retail sector. The forecast is for the index to rise with 0.5%.
