Better-Than-Expected Employment Data in New Zealand

On Monday morning the New Zealand government reported an unexpected decrease of the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of the country to 3.9 per cent for the June quarter, which is a far better result than the initially anticipated rise to 4.3 per cent.

Thus, the unemployment rate fell significantly from the registered 4.2 per cent in the March quarter to its lowest level in over a decade. Last time the unemployment rate in the country was so low was in the June quarter of 2008 when it was registered at 3.8 per cent.
